The Digital Services Act represents a comprehensive set of new rules regulating the responsibilities of digital service providers, aiming to create a safer and fairer online environment. It applies to all internet intermediaries and platforms in the Union, such as online marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms. The Act ensures an easy way to report illegal content, stronger protection for individuals affected by online harassment, transparency regarding advertising, prohibition of certain types of targeted advertising, simple complaint mechanisms, and simplified provisions for terms of service.

"The Digital Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in implementing the Act by coordinating activities at the national level and collaborating with other national competent authorities, the European Committee for Digital Services, and the European Commission. The Digital Services Coordinator is also endowed with investigative and executive powers in relation to intermediary service providers. The implementation of the Act, the powers of competent national authorities, and administrative sanctions will be further regulated by the Digital Services Act Implementation Act, which is currently in the process of adoption."
