Within the scope of the ICECOM, a round table was held on “The Challenges of Measuring the Electromagnetic Fields for 5G Networks”

Given the numerous challenges that measurers face on a daily basis, a number of questions have been raised in order to clarify potential doubts and exchange acquired knowledge and experience.

Zagreb, 28 September 2023- Within the scope of the International Symposium ICECom in Dubrovnik entitled “The Challenges of Measuring the Electromagnetic Fields for 5G Networks”, the he Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) organised a panel discussion on Wednesday, September 27).

By implementing and deploying the 5G networks, questions and doubts regarding the methodology of measuring non-ionising radiation of 5G mobile communications networks are becoming more and more common. The methods most commonly used to measure the level of non-ionising radiation of 5G base stations are frequency and code methods. Differences in the purpose of a particular method, their complexity and applicability, cause numerous challenges that measurers face on a daily basis. It was these challenges that were the subject of this panel discussion, where participants discussed open issues, clarified potential doubts and exchanged knowledge and experience. Former measuring experience have been presented by Marin Galić (CMO) and Josip Milanović, Head of the Osijek Department of KMS Osijek from HAKOM. Alberto Teković (A1), Radovan Zentner (FER), Marin Galić (CMO) and Anđelko Kopecki, a Senior Expert at HAKOM , had discussion on  open issues while the discussion was moderated by Igor Bedeković,  Senior Expert at HAKOM.

ICECom is an international scientific conference focusing on electromagnetism and communication technologies, which is held for the 24th time in a row.  Given that the topic of 5G measuring is current affair with a lot of open questions, the academic environment provided by the scientific conference was an ideal environment for an open and constructive discussion. It was very interesting to hear what science and norms have to say, and what was encountered on the ground and how to solve open issues. Part of the conclusions will certainly be applied in the daily work of HAKOM.
