As of 1 July, VAT and an additional amount will be collected on all postal consignments containing goods from third countries

NEWS

Postal service providers will charge recipients for all consignments not exceeding 150 EUR (approximately 1.135.00 HRK) with an additional amount for the service of filling in new declarations in accordance with the new customs regulations.

ZAGREB, 23 June 2021 - In accordance with the European Union Customs Code, which abolished the provision on free import of consignments valued at EUR 22 converted in HRK, the Croatian legislative framework was amended, new customs procedures and forms were prescribed to be fulfilled by the postal service provider under customs supervision for VAT collection and release of goods for free circulation, as well as brokerage services performed during the delivery of postal items to the recipients.

The service users purchasing goods from third countries via internet portals should be prepared for additional costs, both VAT and freight services that postal service providers will charge according to the amount of goods purchased. In other words, all postal consignments with goods arriving to the customs from third countries as from 1 July 2021 will be burdened by additional amounts that the postal service providers will charge from the recipient when delivering the items.

The exception is only the postal consignment sent by a natural person to a natural person in HRK equivalent to 45 EUR, except for alcohol, tobacco and perfumes. Also, the former procedure will be applied for postal shipments containing goods worth over 150 EUR, for which the recipients will have to pay the amount of customs duties, postage and VAT in accordance with previous regulations when they are delivered, but the amount for citizens will ultimately be more favourable.
