The European Year of Rail: Connecting Europe Express train is expected to arrive in Zagreb on Saturday

The operation of this train, which will connect 23 EU member countries and three neighbouring countries is the central event of the European Railway Year, which is celebrated throughout the year 2021.

ZAGREB, 9 September 2021 – On September 2, Europe Express train began its journey in Lisbon and will arrive in Paris on October 7. Meanwhile, it will pass through 23 EU member countries and three neighbouring countries, and it is expected to arrive in Zagreb on September 17 at 7 pm. Driving this train is the central event of the European Railway year celebrated throughout the year 2021, which was decided upon at the proposal of the European Commission of March 2020, during the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The aim of the European Railway Year declaration was to encourage citizens and businesses across the European Union to use rail transport more effectively and sustainably. All this is in line with the objectives of the Strategy for Transport Development of the Republic of Croatia and the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia and with the basic elements of the reform of the railway sector enclosed in the letter of modernisation and restructuring of the railway sector.

More information about this event can be seen on the official EU web sites, and it is also possible to access the content and impressions of tourist blogger and photographer Dimitris Karvelis, who, due to climate changes, chooses “green” solutions for travel by train from Lisbon to Zagreb. The train with guests in Zagreb will be welcomed by the representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, representatives of the City of Zagreb, and the Zagreb Tourist Board as well as HŽ Infrastruktura and Croatian Passenger Transport, and LADO, the National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia, will perform a special programme.
