HAKOM and Poslovni dnevnik are organising the fifth “Accessible Future” conference

This year’s edition focuses on digital accessibility and the role of artificial intelligence in the everyday lives of persons with disabilities

ZAGREB, 5 May 2026 - The “Accessible Future” conference will take place on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, in Zagreb, organised by the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) and Poslovni dnevnik.

The conference will bring together representatives of regulatory bodies, industry, academia, civil society and end-users, with the aim of exchanging experience and presenting solutions to improve the accessibility of information, content and services for persons with disabilities.

This year’s edition will focus on the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in an increasingly digitalised society. Particular emphasis will be placed on areas within HAKOM’s remit - electronic communications, railway services and postal services - as well as on the broader societal context in which universal and inclusive solutions must be developed.

One of HAKOM’s core responsibilities is the protection of users’ interests, including those of vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities. In the digital environment, access to information and services is a key prerequisite for equal participation in society. For this reason, HAKOM carries out part of its activities in cooperation with the academic community and civil society organisations, with the aim of enhancing accessibility in areas within its jurisdiction.

How much is artificial intelligence changing the lives of persons with disabilities?

This year’s conference will place particular emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence and universal design in removing barriers in everyday life. As part of the programme, a panel discussion entitled “How much is artificial intelligence changing the lives of persons with disabilities?” will be held, featuring persons with disabilities as users of digital and accessible solutions. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr Željka Car, an expert with many years of experience in the development of innovative ICT solutions for assistive communication.

The conference will also address national policies, regulatory experience from Hungary, and accessible solutions from Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic. As in previous years, it will conclude with the presentation of awards by Poslovni dnevnik as part of the “Experience is Worth Its Weight in Gold” project.

The “Accessible Future” conference aims to bring together policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, experts and end-users in order to exchange knowledge, experience and examples of best practice. In an era of rapid digital transformation, accessibility is an essential prerequisite for an inclusive society and equal participation for all citizens.
The conference will also be available to follow remotely via HAKOM’s YouTube and Facebook channels. A viewing link will be published on the day of the conference.
