HAKOM and the BCO Network Support Facility Bring Together Broadband Experts in Zagreb

Participants included specialists in digital and network infrastructure as well as the application of quantum technologies.

ZAGREB, 18 June 2025 - A two-day workshop of the Broadband Competence Offices Network (BCO Network) was held in Zagreb, organised by the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) and the BCO Network Support Facility. The event brought together 65 participants, including representatives of national BCO offices from nearly all EU Member States, the European Commission, the BCO Network Support Facility, the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds. Attendees included experts in digital and network infrastructure and in the application of quantum technologies.

The event took place at the National and University Library in Zagreb and featured numerous thematic presentations and panel discussions on the future of broadband connectivity in Europe. Topics included funding models beyond 2027, investments in submarine cables, and secure next-generation networks incorporating quantum technologies.

The second part of the workshop included a field visit to the town of Ivanić-Grad, where the operator A1 Croatia presented concrete examples of investment in the development of broadband infrastructure. Participants toured sites where an optical network has been built with the support of EU grant funding.

This workshop further strengthened cooperation among BCO Network members and raised important questions regarding the future role of BCOs in achieving the European Union’s digital targets by 2030.
