ZAGREB, 23 November 2017 – Following the invitation of the organizer the European Commission (EC) and DG CONNECT (Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission) Brussels hosted fourth workshop on "Mapping Broadband Services in Europe" from 21 to 23 November.
Reliable and valid data on existing infrastructure and broadband services are the back up support for achieving the goals from the Digital Single Market (DSM) broadband connectivity. Therefore, by means of broadband services mapping project in Europe the EC seeks to establish a single platform with infrastructure and services information within the EU, which will facilitate the launch of investment and the protection of users’ rights through the transparency of the quality of service delivery. After the third workshop held in July 2017, the EC incorporated feedback from all workshop participants and continued collecting data from national broadband mapping initiatives by further developing this unique EU mapping and visualization platform for connectivity and quality of services within the EU and EEA.
At this workshop, the EC presented the progress and status of the project, in particular the experience gained in the process of delivering data to each of the Member States. Different mapping methods of all Member States were compared, shortcut solutions for unique mapping were presented to enable the European look at QoS (quality of service). At the workshops each member country, presented mapping initiative (eg Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). The Croatian National Broadband Mapping Initiative, enabled by HAKOM through the GIS portal application was presented by HAKOM's experts Vesna Gašpar, Josip Šajnović, At the same time, the EC presented operational instructions for mapping data on a single EU portal. The comparability of the national data collection methodology and further steps will be discussed before the public announcement of these EU portals.
