NEWS

ZAGREB, 3 March 2015 – BEREC’s (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) plenary meeting was held in Bern and it focused on discussions about amendments to the European regulatory framework expected to be introduced this year. The meeting was attended by chairpersons of European regulatory authorities and representatives of the European Commission. The discussion itself consisted of two sessions. The first one focused on end users, and the second one on operators and their needs in 2020. An important emphasis was placed on coverage in rural areas and the financing thereof, including whether the issue may be solved by state aid. In other words, the creation of a wider gap between urban and rural areas should be avoided. The issue of desired Internet safety was also discussed, while the discussion on consumer rights focused on the definition of transparency and who is responsible for it.

The plenary meeting was preceded by a workshop on regulation in an oligopolistic system and a discussion on trends that might result in such situation on the market.

The final plenary session was attended by the President of the Council of HAKOM, Dražen Lučić, and Assistant Director, Marko Čavlović. This year BEREC is chaired by the Portuguese regulatory authority.
