HAKOM becomes member of EMERG

NEWS

By becoming a member of EMERG, HAKOM joined the co-operation between telecommunications regulators of the Mediterranean area.

ZAGREB, 6 March 2015 – HAKOM became a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Regulators Group for electronic communications (EMERG), a body for cooperation between national regulatory authorities from countries in the Mediterranean area. After having become a full member of BEREC in July 2013, HAKOM will transfer its active role from the European Union regulators organization to an organization that includes, in addition to Mediterranean European states, African countries from the Mediterranean area. In addition to experiences that may be useful to HAKOM for further development of electronic communications market in the Republic of Croatia, the membership of EMERG will contribute to harmonization of cross-border cooperation with more non-EU countries.

The meeting was attended by representatives from countries members of this body, including a representative of the European Commission. The main topic of the meeting included EMERG’s report containing a series of comparable market indicators for 18 countries.

EMERG’s plenary meeting was attended by HAKOM’s Executive Director Mario Weber and Assistant Director Marko Čavlović. This year, the Spanish regulatory authority will preside over EMERG.
