HAKOM initiates a new stage in the Internet development programme

PRESS RELEASE

Following the granting of support for the development of high-speed broadband networks in areas of special state concern, in highland and mountain areas and on the islands and the beginning of development of socially-useful applications, the next step is the procurement of hardware for end users of applications.

ZAGREB, 3 September 2014 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) launched a public tender for the procurement of hardware for some of the end users of socially-useful applications whose development was financed by HAKOM. The subject of procurement are servers and other hardware for the Croatian health Insurance Fund, the Ministry of the Interior, the Croatian Fire-Fighting Association and CARnet, and part of the equipment for CARnet will be used for applications developed as part of the government’s e-Citizens project. The procured equipment will be donated to end users in accordance with the conditions approved in a decision adopted by the Croatian Competition Agency.

As a reminder, under its Programme for the Development of Internet and High-Speed Internet Access in Areas of Special State Concern, in Highland and Mountain Areas and on the Islands, HAKOM earmarked fifty million HRK for the development of broadband infrastructure in the form of state aid and additional fifty million HRK for the development of socially-useful applications based on broadband internet access and for the procurement of equipment for those applications. The developed applications, which were selected through public invitation for the delivery of ideas and developed on the basis of public tenders, are donated to end users. In addition to the applications, HAKOM is also donating to end users the necessary hardware and user equipment. Besides the development of broadband access network, the objective is to ensure to end users in the Republic of Croatia simpler, more efficient and faster access to contents and carrying out of individual tasks under the competence of state administration bodies and public services that require internet access and for which the applications have been developed.

One socially-useful application that was financed by HAKOM from funds saved during regular business operations was IT Introduction into Home Care Services in the Republic of Croatia. Furthermore, HAKOM recently launched a tender for the development of broadband networks in flood-affected areas of South-eastern Slavonia, and it has also procured a part of IT equipment for home care nurses in that area thus enabling the launching of a pilot project aimed at creating an integral software solution that would enable the home care services to send test results for analysis and diagnosis by electronic means, to ensure preconditions for more quality communication between health-care professionals and for their communication with the patents, to connect health care services and laboratories and to contribute to quality of data in the future electronic health record.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is 13 October 2014. More information is available at HAKOM’s website via the following link.
