Lower fees for operators

PRESS RELEASE

HAKOM reduces fees for electronic communications operators and postal services providers in 2014.

Zagreb, 30 December 2013 - HAKOM has adopted a new ordinance on the payment of fees to HAKOM for the performance of activities of electronic communications and postal services market regulation and the management of limited national goods: radiofrequency spectrum and addressing and numbering. Under the ordinance, the fees for the activities such as market regulation and consumer protection are reduced by 20 per cent, while the fee for the use of radiofrequencies for mobile communication networks is significantly reduced in the segment of limited national goods management. The fee for one Megahertz (MHz) of allocated frequencies shall thus be reduced by over 30 per cent as of New Year. The regulation also introduces a novelty by which operators in the electronic communications market and postal services providers with the turnover of one million will not be subject to  payment of the fee to HAKOM.

This reduction of fees represents the continuation of the trend started in 2009, since when fees for the financing of the regulator’s activities have been reduced in accordance with the acquis communautaire. Pursuant to relevant directives, HAKOM is not a budgetary user and is completely independently financed by the collection of funds from incumbents in the postal services and electronic communications markets.
