The 68th ELMAR Symposium Held in Zadar
ZAGREB, 22 September 2026 - The 68th ELMAR Symposium is being held in Zadar from 21 to 23 September. The symposium brings together prominent scientists and experts with the aim of presenting and discussing the latest research achievements and technological developments. This year’s programme includes presentations of scientific papers and lectures by renowned international experts.
Scientific papers that have been accepted following review by two independent reviewers and presented at the symposium will be published in the proceedings and submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore database, provided that they meet the database’s scope and quality requirements. At the opening of the conference, participants were welcomed by Miran Gosta, Director of HAKOM.
HAKOM and OiV special session on critical communications
This year’s special session, traditionally organised by OiV and HAKOM as part of ELMAR, focused on critical communications - a set of communication systems and services that must operate reliably, including under exceptional circumstances, as they directly support the safety of people and property and the functioning of states.
Although the concept of critical communications encompasses all radiocommunication services, the presentations placed particular emphasis on the importance and role of maritime, aeronautical and satellite communications, which are inherently linked to critical communications.
The session was held on the first day of the symposium and was moderated by Ana Katalinić Mucalo (HAKOM) and Mihael Jančić (Odašiljači i veze). Ana Katalinić Mucalo gave a presentation entitled “Critical Communications - Regulatory and EU Context”. Hrvoje Hadžić (Ericsson) delivered a presentation entitled “Connected Seas”, while Ante Perišić (Plovput) and Ana Džolić (OiV) presented on “The Application of IoT Solutions in the Maritime Domain”. Dejan Markač (Ministry of the Interior) gave a presentation entitled “The Role of Communications in C-UxS Police Duties”.
