The second quarter of the year recorded less goods transported by rail, but the number of passengers increased

The rail transported 31.7 % more passengers and 8.1 % less goods compared to the same period of the previous year.

Zagreb, 5 September 2023 — In the second quarter of this year, HŽ Putnički prijevoz d.o.o. transported 31.7 percent more passengers, and the number of passenger kilometers increased by 88.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

As regards rail freight indicators, the trend of a decrease in freight transport at the end of last year continued in the second quarter of this year. Rail freight transport accounted for 8.1 % less goods with 13.3 % less tonne-kilometres compared to the same period of the previous year. Although freight transport decreased, the overall revenues from the transport of goods recorded a growth of 1.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The freight undertaking, HŽ Cargo d.o.o., transported 6.8 percent less goods with 14.4 percent less tonne-kilometres, while other freight railway companies transported 8.8 percent less goods and accounted 12 percent less tonne -kilometres. At the end of the second quarter of this year, HŽ Cargo d.o.o. had a share of 38 % of total transported goods and 51.7 % of realized tonne- kilometres. Out of a total of 18, 12 freight railway undertakings were commercially active and six did not transport goods in the second quarter.
