Use of railway infrastructure same as in the previous quarter

PRESS RELEASE

ZAGREB, 3 March 2015 – The use of railway infrastructure, as one of the services on the rail services market where rail services are provided to railway operators by the infrastructure manager HŽ Infrastruktura d.o.o., is comparable to the previous quarter with almost the same number of cargo and passenger train kilometers. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, there was a 12% decrease.

The railway transport market, which includes the transport of passengers and/or cargo, recorded in the fourth quarter of 2014 a growth of almost 40 percent in the number of passengers carried and 5 percent increase in cargo transportation, compared to the previous quarter. A more significant increase in the transportation of passengers in the fourth quarter results, in the first place, from increased transportation of pupils, students and other passengers compared to the summer months. Compared to the indicators for the last quarter of 2013, there were 7 percent less passengers and 2 percent less cargo carried in 2014.

The travelled ton kilometers in railway cargo traffic increase by 11 percent quarterly and annually, which points to increased use of long haul cargo rail transport.
