European Commission Launches Public Consultation on Protecting Minors Online under the Digital Services Act

ZAGREB, 15 May 2025 - The European Commission has opened a public consultation on a set of draft guidelines aimed at enhancing the safety of children on digital platforms. The proposed measures include age verification, default private account settings, user-blocking functionality, restrictions on adding minors to group chats without their explicit consent, and the provision of a high level of privacy, safety, and protection for children, in accordance with the requirements of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
All interested stakeholders — including children, parents and guardians, national authorities, online platform providers, and subject-matter experts — are invited to submit their feedback by 15 June 2025.
