Investments in very high capacity networks but also the number of high speed broadband users

Total annual revenues on the electronic communications market increased by 3.6 %, while at the same time investments increased by 20.5 %.

ZAGREB, March 10, 2022 - Total annual investments on the electronic communications market in 2021 amounted to HRK 3.01 billion, which is an increase of 20.5 % compared to 2020. Real estate networks recorded significant investments in very large capacity networks (VHCN) amounting to HRK 615.1 million, which is an increase of 115, 5 % compared to the last year. At the same time, total annual revenues of HRK 11.5 billion were generated, which is a 3.6 % increase, and revenues from broadband internet access services grew by 11 %, network and line rental by 4.6 % and pay- TV by 4.2 %.

The investment growth in very high capacity networks (VHCN) is proportional to the growth in the number of new connections via optical technologies, which is an increase of 33.7 %. Users are increasingly migrating from the copper network to very high capacity networks (VHCN) and the number of connections via the copper network is in decline.

The share of broadband users with a speed above 30Mbit/s in 2021 increased from 42.1% to 58.9%, while speeds above 100Mbit/s are now used by 28% of users, as opposed to 2020, when 16% of users used the service.
In the fourth quarter of last year, 58.6 % of households used some form of pay- TV and the trend of increasing the number of connections and revenues from this service has continued. In reference to the previous year, an increase of 1,9 has been recorded in the total number of connections while revenues rose by 4.1 %.

The market for mobile telephone services has been continuing to register a decline in the total number of users, total traffic and revenues. The number of users decreased by 2.2%, turnover fell by 17.8% and total revenues decreased by 4.7%.
