Less goods and passengers carried in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2021 less goods were transported by rail, and the trend of reduced passenger transport continued.

ZAGREB, 10 June 2021 - In the first quarter of 2021, freight railway transport in Croatia transported 2.7% less goods with 0.6% more tonne kilometres than in the same period of the previous year. At the same time, new freight railway undertakings recorded 1.9 percent less goods and 8.6 percent less tonne-kilometres. HŽ Cargo d.o.o. has transported 4 percent less goods with 9.9 percent more tonne-kilometres. In the first quarter, new freight undertakings held a share of 62.5% in goods carried and 45.8% in tonne kilometres compared to HŽ Cargo d.o.o. as a historic undertaking.

By comparing the share of train kilometres per type of transport, freight transport comprises one third of the total traffic with 33.5 percent and passenger transport for another 66.5 percent. Referring to the freight undertaking, the largest share of train kilometres was owned by the HŽ Cargo d.o.o. with 57.1 percent, 7 new undertakings had the remaining share, while 4 were not active in the first quarter. Freight transport grew by 0.4 percent, while passenger undertaking achieved 4.4 percent less train kilometres compared to the same period last year.
