Once again, HAKOM celebrates Safer Internet Day

As a regulator of the electronic communications market, which is particularly concerned with the protection of vulnerable groups, once again HAKOM will give a boost to marking this important day.

Zagreb, 3 February 2023 Safer Internet Day, which is celebrated every year on the second day of the second week of February, is a good opportunity to speak out once again on the safe and responsible use of the internet and mobile devices, with a special focus on the protection of children and young people. The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), which is responsible for the protection of users of electronic communications and thus the protection of children and young people as the most sensitive user groups, will be included in this year’s commemorative event, which will be held in elementary school Rapska 3, Zagreb, on Tuesday, February 7th.

This year again HAKOM will present a new, redesigned brochure that will find the way to the Croatian primary school students, the fifth grade students. The brochure titled “How to Protect Yourself in the World of Internet and Mobile Devices” contains practical and useful advice on the dangers and safety on the Internet, protection of privacy and personal data, behaviour and responsible use of social networks, and is part of HAKOM’s programme of informing children and parents that has been implemented since 2016 in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education. In addition to the brochure, HAKOM will present children and young people, as well as their parents and teachers, with a quiz developed in cooperation with FER, which is part of the updated Privacy Calculator application, whose main purpose is to inform end-users of the Internet access service about possible risks that may cause personal data to be provided on the Internet.

On this occasion, interesting presentations of representatives of HAKOM and Carnet will be held, and on how their company works and contributes to the protection of the youngest users will be spoken by the representatives of two operators of electronic communications; HT and Telemach. It is also planned to socialise school children with Luka Bulić, who will especially present his song composed for children, which speaks about the protection of children on the Internet and the dangers that are lurking on the network of all networks.
