Preventing Online Harassment and Safeguarding Children in the Digital World: Central Themes of the “Search for a Better Internet” Conference

The “Search for a Better Internet” conference, designed for students, parents, and educators, will focus on raising awareness and protecting children from the numerous risks present in the online environment.

ZAGREB, 2 February 2024 - In celebration of Safer Internet Day, the Association Suradnici u učenju, the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Activities (HAKOM), and CARNET’s National CERT are hosting the thematic conference “Search for a Better Internet” on Tuesday, 6 February 2024. The event aims to highlight the critical importance of preventing online harassment, safeguarding children’s personal data, creating a secure digital environment, and ensuring access to high-quality online content for young people.
The conference will feature presentations on student online safety, privacy protection, fact-checking, digital parenting, and innovative digital tools and projects. In addition, two round-table discussions will provide opportunities for in-depth dialogue.

The first round table, entitled “Supporting Children and Young People for Safer Development in the Digital Society”, will bring together representatives from the European Commission Representation in Croatia, the Agency for Electronic Media, CARNET’s National CERT, HAKOM, the Centre for a Safer Internet, the Personal Data Protection Agency, and the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The second round table will engage primary and secondary school students, who will discuss the challenges of growing up in a digital world and share their personal experiences.
This year, the “Search for a Better Internet” conference will be held in a hybrid format. The morning session, from 10:00 to 13:00, will take place simultaneously in person at the Hotel International in Zagreb and online, while the afternoon session, from 13:00 to 18:00, will continue online.
